What Is Wellness?
Here are some generally accepted definitions of wellness, and to the surprise of many, they all go far beyond just physical health:
- Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a balanced, healthy and fulfilling life. More than simply being free from illness, it is a self-directed dynamic process of change, growth and of achieving full potential.
- According to the World Health Organization, wellness is “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
- Wellness is a state characterized by the individual taking personal responsibility for her/his health, happiness and prosperity. It is a lifelong journey of conscious development of the whole person.
Why Wellness Matters
Wellness, or wellbeing as some would prefer to call it, is the cornerstone of quality of life since without it, all other pursuits are less than optimal, such as the pursuit of fulfilling your life purpose. Wellness requires that you value your life and therefore take positive actions toward improving its condition. Wellness matters because it:
- determines how you look and feel,
- influences your outlook on life,
- effects your interactions with others and the environment, and
- influences how you thrive in all aspects of life.
Balance Is the Key
Your wellbeing is the outcome of the constant interaction between all aspects of your life: health, spirituality, relationships, career, wealth, education, creativity, and social contributions. Imbalance in one area affects the balance of the whole. The purpose of Light On It – Enlightened Living is to introduce you to training programs, events and products that help you achieve and maintain balance in all dimensions of your life. In this way, you can experience a life of fulfillment, inner peace and happiness.
Let Your Light Shine
Think of a faceted diamond; scratches and impurities on one facet affect how the whole diamond reflects light. You are a multi-faceted diamond; improvements in all facets will allow your inner light to shine at its brightest. Not only does this create wellbeing and an optimal life for yourself, but as your light shines brighter, you impact the world in positive ways.
It is important to remember, however, that small changes can make big differences. Trying to make many changes in all or many areas of your life at once can be overwhelming and derail your attempts to improve. Likewise, if you wish to make one big change, it is usually more achievable if you break it down into smaller steps, achieving them one at a time, so as not to lose motivation toward the big goal. It’s really all about getting better, bit by bit, rather than the impossible task of trying to be perfect all at once.
Help Is Right Here
We all know how difficult it is to maintain balance and wellbeing in our lives. Some of the ill effects of imbalance include stress, depression, heart disease, obesity, relationship issues, financial woes, feeling spiritually disconnected, and the list goes on. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed amidst the struggles and uncertainty of life. Fortunately, today there are many resources available to help you.
Some of the best resources are here at Light On It, with many tools to help you make lasting changes that lead to an optimal life. In addition to the wellness programs and products offered on this page, other superior resources on this site include Transformational Programs, Yoga and Meditation training, Retreats and Conferences, and Books and Media. Each program and product line is thoughtfully selected to help you achieve wellbeing so that you can experience an amazing life.
Sometimes “Life Happens"
Each facet of your diamond self is vital to your wellbeing. However, reality sometimes dictates that there is a need to emphasize one facet over others. For example, a new baby in the home, preparing your dissertation while you’re also working, or being a care-giver while you’re also an entrepreneur with a new business. Less sleep, less social interactions with friends, less time for creative hobbies or volunteer work.
The keys to finding serenity in the chaos and to help maintain a sense of balance and purpose during these times are awareness, wise determination of priorities, mindfulness, a constant sense of gratitude, and empathy for all. Self-care is also needed for you to have the energy and wherewithal to focus on others.

Special Notes Regarding Products and Ingredients
Yes, the quality of your products matter for your wellness, the wellness of the producers themselves, and the balance and wellness of our planet. Regarding food and food supplements, the body itself prefers natural and organic ingredients and is designed to recognize them and assimilate them better than products that include mass quantities of pesticides (some of which are banned in other countries), chemicals and preservatives.
Chemicals, preservatives and synthetics in skin care and cosmetics. Some are just plain bad for us (even carcinogenic and banned in other countries). Some are understudied, unnecessary or at best, debatable. Some are considered benign or even helpful. And some synthetics are quite good at imitating nature and usually for less cost.
Fortunately, green chemistry in skin care and cosmetics is always evolving. Although completely natural or organic skin care is available, cosmetics are a different story. Whether the ingredient is natural or synthetic, it must always be vetted for safety and sustainability. It is known that there are some natural ingredients that can be harmful (for example causing allergies) and unsustainably produced (for example some palm oils). There are also some synthetics that are safe and produced sustainably. Herein lies the objective of ‘clean beauty’. Clean means safer ingredients backed by a standard that ensures thoughtful evaluation of safety and sustainability, with an emphasis on natural materials.
Another consideration is products that are responsibly and ethically sourced, that is, from artisans, or companies that use sustainable and fair trade practices.
We take special care to consider all of these factors when selecting the companies we wish to work with. We select those that allow you to maintain your values in the wellbeing of human beings, animals and the earth while still providing you optimal health, beauty and comfort. We want what’s better for you, better for product producers, and better for our planet. We want a win-win for all.
